FAQ
Questions people ask
How do I find the company on my royalty check or letter?
Look for the name printed on the check stub or the letterhead, then find its first letter here. A company page shows the state record: the Railroad Commission operator number and status, the business entity, permits, leases and production. Compare it with what the paper says.
What is the difference between an operator and a buyer?
An operator runs the wells and reports the production. A buyer, or purchaser, takes the oil or gas at the lease or a gathering point. Some companies are both. Your royalty check can come from either, so the name on your stub may not be the operator's.
Which companies are listed?
Businesses with a Railroad Commission organization record: operators with oil or gas reported in the last twelve months, and every buyer or gatherer the state lists. Individuals and estates have no page here.
