FAQ

Questions people ask

When is the Howard County mineral property tax protest deadline?

You file a written notice of protest with the appraisal review board not later than May 15 or the 30th day after the appraisal notice was delivered to you, whichever is later (Tax Code section 41.44(a)(1)). For the 2027 tax year May 15 falls on a Saturday, so the day the state's rules count is May 17, 2027 (section 1.06). A notice delivered after April 15 gives a later day: 30 days from delivery.

How do I file a protest with the Howard County Appraisal District?

The district offers Taxpayer Portal (online appeals). It lists these ways to file: online, by mail. Its protest page is linked on this page. A notice of protest does not have to be on an official form: it must identify you, identify the property and say you disagree with a determination of the appraisal office (Tax Code section 41.44(d)).
